In 1995 the Ramblers Association recognised that Staffordshire lacked sufficient local Groups based on the size of the County.
It was decided to set up 9 new Groups within the area and a full time member of the ramblers was appointed to set up and promote the new Groups. Three of our current members attended this meeting.

Groups were organised on the basis of the members post codes and Chase and District Ramblers area included amongst many gems the Area of Natural Beauty (AONB) – Cannock Chase and the smallest park in the England (Burntwood).

On 3rd July 1996 an initial meeting was arranged to investigate potential support and discuss the formation
of a steering committee to be made up of potential members of the new group and Friends from other
nearby Ramblers Group.

To promote the new group displays were booked at Burntwood, Rugeley and Hednesford Libraries and a group of volunteers distributed leaflets, promoting the group, outside local supermarkets. News releases were issued to all national newspapers and local radio stations and it was proposed to place some adverts on the local daily and free newspapers.

Two short walks were arranged on 7th and 11th September 1996 at Brindley Heath and Colton respectively supported by potential Group members and the local Ramblers Groups.

A Group Formation Meeting was arranged at Pye Green Community Centre on the 4th September 1996 and a steering committee
was formed.

At this meeting a fortnightly programme of walks was developed and the inaugural walk of this programme on the 15th September 1996 around Shugborough was attended by 76 walkers.

The first annual general meeting was held later that year in December at the Pye Green Community Centre where a Committee was elected
and one of our original members still retains the same committee position.

During the formation of the group acknowledgement is made to the officers of the local groups for the guidance and assistance in that early period of the formation of the group. Gradually the group became more independent of their help
and continues to thrive.

We now offer a weekly Sunday walk of between 7 to 10 miles.
The meeting point is Hednesford Rail Station Car Park in Anglesey St, Hednesford

Meeting time is as per the programme and the time stated is the prompt departure time
Walks are lead by volunteer club members mainly in and around Staffordshire, Derbyshire and Shropshire with occasional walks in Warwickshire, Leicester and Worcestershire.
